 Cosmetology
is a two-year program. Students receive instruction in the development of
manipulative skills, such as manicure and pedicure techniques, haircutting,
hairstyling, permanent waving, hair straightening, facial treatments and make-up
application. Services for clients are performed by students under the
supervision of licensed instructors. During the course of study, students also
become knowledgeable about the technical aspects of cosmetology such as anatomy,
physiology, chemistry, and electricity and related safety practices. Students
are encouraged to participate in SkillsUSA-TEXAS which offers the opportunity
to compete with other students, as well as promoting leadership skills. The
membership fees are $1 6.00 per year.

Students also will be responsible for
the following expenses: cost of uniform, student permit, cosmetology kit and
supplies, approximately $400.00. This is a rigorous course that requires
students to obtain additional after school hours. Upon completion of the
required 1000 clocked hours, students are expected to take the written portion
of the Cosmetology State Board Exam. The cost for this exam is $52.00. Students
are expected to take the second portion of their exam when all practical
requirements have been completed and have successfully passed the written
portion of the state exam. The cost for this exam is $74.00. Upon successful
completion, students will hold a Texas Cosmetology License and be eligible for
employment in the Cosmetology Industry.
